Worldwide__Genealogy__Association
North American Component
-= Serving Genealogy Bulletin Boards and Users =-
----------------------------------------------------------------------
PURPOSE
~~~~~~~
This document provides guidance for SYSOPS and individuals who are
members of the Worldwide Genealogy Association, North American
Component (WGA-NA) and who participate in the WGA-NA Network
(WGA_Net). The WGA-NA is a professional, nonprofit association of
genealogists. The WGA-NA shares with WGA-EUR in operating an
electronic communications network called WGA_Net.
MEMBERSHIP
~~~~~~~~~~
Membership in WGA-NA is gained by completing a membership
application and submitting it, either directly or indirectly
through a WGA_Net Host, to the North American Coordinator,
Worldwide Genealogy Association. There are two types of
membership: SYSOP and PRIVATE.
A SYSOP is the operator of a bulletin board (BBS) which carries
genealogical conferences for the use of callers. The bulletin board
operates and is accessable 24 hours per day except during Zone Mail
Hour. A SYSOP shall not act as a feed to non-members; however, all
callers to the SYSOP member's bulletin board shall be able to read,
answer and enter messages in those WGA_Net public conferences carried
on the SYSOP's bulletin board. If a caller desires to download all
messages in any or all WGA_Net conferences, that caller must become a
member of WGA-NA prior to being allowed to download.
Persons who are PRIVATE members do not operate a bulletin board but
use the information in genealogical conferences furnished by the
WGA_Net for personal research purposes. The PRIVATE member can
receive traffic on all the echoes authorized a SYSOP member.
At the present time, no dues are being collected from members of WGA-
NA. However, dues are currently being paid by members of the Worldwide
Genealogy Association, Europe (WGA-EUR) and It is anticipated that as
the network grows in North America that meager dues will be collected.
If, and when, this is done the amount of such dues will be set at that
level which will *only* pay for intercontinental telephone calls which
must be made to transfer traffic between continents.
PROCEDURE FOR JOINING WGA-NA
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
A SYSOP (or PRIVATE node) should first (electronically) obtain a
membership application from a Host in the WGA_Net. The application
should be completed and returned to the Host. The Host will
(electronically) forward the completed membership application to the
North American Coordinator of WGA (WGA-NA) (40:2/1). Upon approval of
the applicant by the Coordinator, the Coordinator will furnish
(through the Host) the new member a WGA_Net node number.
RULES FOR MEMBER SYSOPS
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Current rules for all WGA_Net SYSOPs are contained in the file
WGA_RULE.TXT.
AVAILABLE FACILITIES
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The WGA_Net furnishes conferences as listed in the current
WGA_ECHO.NA (or WGA_ECHO.EUR) file.
